New Pen I Received

I love pens.  I’ve been called a “pen junkie”.  Yep, I love them that much!  I love to write handwritten letters and my favorite art medium is pen and ink, so I’m always looking for new pens.

When I asked my pen pal/artist friend, Jessica Gowling, the other day what kind of pen she was using in one of her videos she answered the question, but she also told me that I should check out seltzergoods.com and their 7 year pens.  I did and was thrilled to see that not only did they have pens that last a really long time, but they have pens with a feather on them!  So, I wasted no time in ordering a couple.

This morning I was pleasantly surprised to find a package on my porch when I went out.  It was my new pens! They arrived really fast and there was another surprise there as well.  The cool people at Seltzer Goods also included in the package a handwritten postcard with a smiling cupcake that said, “Thanks!”, another postcard, a cute notecard with envelope and two buttons that I didn’t even order. How nice is that?  Yep, it really made me smile today.

Thanks Jessica!

Music Awards

I don’t like awards shows.  I don’t think art is something that should be judged by just a few people.  You know, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, or the ear if the case may be. But, on the other hand I love music so I usually watch the Grammy Awards and it was certainly a diverse show tonight to say the least. It was great seeing such a mix of musicians together in one place.  As usual there were good parts and the not so good ones.

First of all,  I really hate how so many amazing artists are always overlooked.  Yes, even very talented, amazingly accomplished and extremely famous ones who sell millions of records aren’t even mentioned in the ceremonies.  All of that praise could and should be shared with many musicians and songwriters, some of  whom often never have their music heard outside their own hometowns.  Someone even mentioned that during the show tonight.  And yes, I know that’s what shows like American Idol are for, but even that is so very limited.  Much too limited.  It’s only a popularity contest and it’s really sad.

At least it was cool seeing Bruce Springsteen, Sir Paul McCartney and newer artists like the Foo Fighters and Bruno Mars perform.   I absolutely love Bruno Mars’ voice.  I saw him live this past summer and I must tell you that he sounds even more amazing in person.  Bruce Springsteen and the Foo Fighters brought some real rock to the night and to me, well,  it’s always beyond amazing to hear the Beatles’ (or one Beatle) no matter what.

Anyway, in my opinion, the jam at the end of the show was the best part.  No judgement, just musicians having fun which is what music it’s all about!

“And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make.”

A New Place for Me

Welcome to my new place!

I have a photo blog and my art site, but recently I decided that I need a place to keep everything together.  My thoughts, my photos, my art, my friends are all linked here on the right side. It’s a place where you can see what’s going on with me and also visit my other sites from here as well.  A sort of online journal for me I guess.

Now, a little about the title, A Feather On The Beach.  One of the things that I love most is to visit the beach.  I feel at home there and have since I was four years old.  I love to collect seashells, driftwood, etc., but I always notice when there would be a feather on the sand as well.  I always wonder what bird dropped it and where he or she may have been going as they flew over the ocean.  It was like a little token they’d left behind saying, “I was here”.   That is how I feel about this blog.
